Fashion Retailers are taking Social Media by STORM!

The fashion industry is one of the most rapidly growing industries online; research has shown a year-on-year profit increase rise of 32% since 2009.
Economy is taking a big hit since quite some time now, but surprisingly and industry that always seems to survive these big punches is the Fashion Retail industry. Nowadays they are many possible and free resources to reach clients all over the world, making people more accessible to see the different fashion trends they are happening each season.
Social media is forming a very critical part in the advertising and marketing strategy designers are using to promote their lines. Is important to understand the beauties of social media and how this can influence the buying decision process of many. When you are able to search through Instagram and see the new summer collection for the Michael Kors resort apparel, this is an amazing window for consumers like “me” to be able to see and read more details about each piece. I consider vital for designers and clothing companies to be promoting and creating that consumer awareness when sharing their products with potential costumers. It is important to take fully advantages of these medias. A vivid example of this can be when we spend our spare time on Facebook and we go to Fashion fan pages of certain brands and we are able to go through many of the new items they have currently in stores. By searching and educating ourselves we can find many articles of our interest that we would go and purchase either on the online media or the physical store. I was able to “shop” through visiting a Facebook Fan page and that discover the new merchandise they have, I didn’t need to go to the store website or any other form of clothing retail store, I was able to fall in love with the new Michael Kors Lime green speedy bag all from my Facebook page.
E-marketing is growing by the second helping many industries achieve their designated quotas when launching a product or a campaign. It is so simple to go through a clothing website and look through their items, look for one you can easily fall in love. When finding that very special item the new sources of online marketing strategies make it even easier for you to share your new “discovery” with all your friends through sites such as Facebook and Twitter. You like those new sassy pair of floral heels? Why don’t you share the pictures with your friends on Facebook and get their opinions? Is very simply such as clicking a button and DONE! The store is receiving free advertising in almost every part of the world by sharing it with your girlfriends on your Facebook page.

Another point of free publicity this stores can obtain from clients is the amazing world of reviews! Many give their thoughts about different items that they have previously owned and help new customers feel more confident especially when they are doing an online purchase. They share their experiences such as the fabric, how it looks, the fit and how confortable the pieces are when you wear them, the reviews are found on many sources such as the store website, Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, customers tend to write reviews as comments when somebody posts a picture of a piece they previously bought or returned.

  1. I see how social media can help influence and enhance the development stage of the buying decision. By posting and "sharing" with friends, one can get their feedback, thereby reinforcing the need or "desire" for the item and escalate the buying exchange.
